Enjoy the sea, safely.

Strong rip currents form along the main beach, and lifeguards can't watch all of it. A minute here could save a life.

Rip-current hotspots

Most drownings happen at the busiest points, where the sand channels shift.

  • Laboni High risk
  • Sugandha High risk
  • Kolatoli High risk

Lifeguards cover only part of the beach. Ask your hotel where today's lifeguard zone is.

Read the flags

  • Green Calm water, swim with care
  • Yellow Rough sea or currents, stay shallow
  • Red Dangerous, do not swim
  • Red & yellow Lifeguard zone: swim between these

Swim smart

  • Swim only where lifeguards are on duty
  • Stay out of the water after sunset
  • Caught in a current? Swim sideways, parallel to the beach
  • Keep children within arm's reach in the water

In an emergency

If someone is in trouble in the water

  1. 01

    Shout for a lifeguard

Alert lifeguards or people nearby straight away.

  2. 02

    Call 999

Give the beach point name, like Sugandha or Kolatoli.

  3. 03

    Throw, don't go

Throw something that floats: a ring, bottle or board.

  4. 04

    Keep them in sight

Point at them so rescuers know exactly where to go.
